Our Sea View Villa was set amongst swaying palms with a terrace that overlooked the picture perfect lawns and the not too distant ocean. We loved the bath which was surrounded by yet more greenery, and our bed was supremely comfortable meaning we slept like (well behaved) babies. For anyone travelling with family or a large group make sure to check out the Three Bedroom Hilltop Pool Villas, which in addition to three en suite bedrooms with private balconies, boast an expansive garden with oversized private pool.

The Vegan Food

On our first day we enjoyed foraging from the extensive breakfast buffet at 'The Indochine' with the staff team on standby to offer advice and suggestions. The following day we dined at 'The Colonial' where a much smaller buffet was complimented by an extensive a la carte menu. Both experiences provided the opportunity to enjoy some of the 'must eat' treats for anyone visiting Vietnam. Banh xeo pancakes made with rice flour and turmeric were perfectly cooked and golden brown, whilst the tofu filled banh mi chay showed just why this humble Vietnamese sandwich is far from humble. Our rich and creamy vegetable and tofu Vietnamese curry certainly hit the spot, whilst the vegetable packed bowl of pho showed just why this breakfast staple is ever present when dining in Vietnam. We also enjoyed a fresh and crunchy white seaweed salad, banh can rice flour pancakes served with fresh salad leaves, shredded young mango, herbs and soy sauce. The slightly naughty but oh so nice (and very moreish) fried Chinese buns were an absolute breakfast joy and a guilty pleasure to accompany our foam topped almond milk lattes.

Lunch at The Beach Club not only offered stunning views and a gentle sea breeze, but it presented the opportunity to enjoy a toasted ciabatta layered with hummus, chargrilled courgettes, aubergine, onion and a rich sun-dried tomato tapenade, served with salad and fries which would satisfy even the hungriest of vegans. Vegan afternoon tea lovers will feel at home at The Anam Cam Ranh where a selection of Vietnamese treats will be served at The Colonial. Choose the serene garden or calm air conditioned interior to receive a tower of savoury and sweet snacks including the ubiquitous fresh spring rolls as well as other delectable bites including sticky rice cakes filled with sweet creamy peanut fillings. A feast for the eyes as well as the palette, each layer of the tower offers new flavours and textures and a chance to learn more about authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Another stand out dish was this vegan quinoa salad consisting of kale topped with roasted tri-coloured quinoa and cubed sweet potato, buttery avocado, jewels of fresh baby tomatoes, thin slivers of red onion, toasted almond flakes and a zesty orange dressing. A well put together, nutritious and delicious salad. There were so many plant based culinary highlights, it's impossible to list them all, but the seared watermelon steak, drizzled with a delicate smoked paprika dressing, toasted walnuts, peppery arugula leaves and fresh mint leaves all created what was a tasty, juicy and memorable dish.

The Vegan Essentials

There were complimentary yoga classes, a fitness centre and tennis court available for those who wish to make wellness part of their vacation, whilst The Anam Spa offered the epitome of relaxation; wonderfully executed treatments, followed by yet more ‘chill time’ in the relaxation area. Our only regret was not spending more time in the calming surrounds of the spa during our stay. The Anam Cam Ranh boasts three freshwater pools including an adult only pool which was a tranquil and peaceful haven. Quite simply, it would be difficult to leave feeling anything but relaxed, it was just what we needed.

The Vegan Food Quest Verdict

The Anam Cam Ranh certainly delivered all of our expectations and more. We loved the grounds, we loved the beach and we loved our villa. This was all complimented by a staff team who went above and beyond to cater for us as vegan guests. You won't find extensive veggie and vegan options on the menus, but rest assured once you let them know that you wish to eat plant based food, they fully understand and are happy to embrace your culinary choices.
